National Family Volunteering Initiative
The project
The “National Family Volunteering Initiative” is a project funded by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Services, and implemented by the Joint Distribution Committee. The project aims to promote the idea of family volunteering in Israel, and improve family and social cohesion in at risk communities. The project – running for two years – targets more than 500 vulnerable families in seven cities (Acre, Hadera, Netanya, Petah Tikva, Modiin Illit, Beit Shemesh and Kiryat Gat). To achieve its goals the project provides families with opportunities to engage in voluntary work; it offers social support and counseling to parents to improve their parenting skills; it educates children about the values of social activism and encourages them to become pro-active members of their communities.
